Seekers After The Promise

Acts 1:6-8. So when they met together they asked him 'Lord are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?' He replied 'It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.'

Are you one of those seekers after the promise of the Father? Two things we need to know. What we are seeking and how to be the right kind of seekers. In the book of Ruth we see three women all at a point in their lives seeking their destiny. Naomi represents Israel, her daughter in-law Ruth represents the Gentiles and her daughter-in-law Orpah represents the unknown gods.

Time of New Opportunity

Naomi wanted to go back to her land, the land of her fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. She gives her daughter-in-laws a choice: you can either stay or go with me. Ruth, who represents the Gentiles, s ays in verses 16-17 Your God will be my God. Don't urge me to leave you or turn back from you. Where you go I will go, where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people. Where you die I will die and I will be buried.

Orpah decides to stay with her unknown gods. She kissed her mother-in-law goodbye and went back to her gods. Ruth was seeking after the promise of God. She knew what she was seeking and the promise came when she married Boaz, into the lineage of Jesus, her kinsman redeemer. What happened to Orpah? Nothing else was heard about her after she followed her unknown gods.

In Acts 17:23 Paul uncovers the altars of the unknown gods as objects of worship. Micah 4:1 says in the last days The mountain of the Lords temple will be established as chief amongst the mountains, it will be raised above the hills and people will stream to it.But not all will go up the mountain the ones who follow the unknown gods. Verse 12 'They do not know the thoughts of the Lord, they do not understand his plan...'

There are still a lot of unknown gods out there ready to seduce us out of Godly destiny. Now is the time to make the right choice, lay hold of the promise of the Lord concerning you.

The spirit of the Antichrist is at work. Become the right sort of seeker; fulfil your desires as Ruth and Naomi did. Let us be grafted in, the Jew and the Gentile, and move forward knowing that at the mountain of God in the latter days that are coming, we will receive the promise as seekers.

It seems clear we are swiftly moving into the Last Days and yet it also seems this is a time of new opportunity. There is an open door before us. As we take the first step to walk through that door we must have faith that God will make the way clear to each of us and he will make provision for the journey ahead.
